Midlife at the Oasis
We can all benefit from taking time periodically to just be with ourselves, especially during this midlife transition. How else are we going to discover what we want to do next? During midlife, taking the time to retreat in order to slow down, quiet our minds and turn within is not only a good idea, it’s necessary to help us uncover the latent dreams and desires that get buried in the noise of everyday life.
What excuses are your inner voices using to keep you from taking time for yourself? Too busy, too tired, can’t afford it, don’t deserve it?
Then remind yourself – none of these excuses are true unless you choose to believe them!
Rather than believe them, take action and find an oasis for your soul where you can minimize distractions, relax your body and quiet the inner voices. Even a 4-day weekend retreat can do wonders. You deserve it!
We midlife women are always looking for recommendations on nurturing retreats – where do you go? Let’s create a list of retreat centers and spas that we have personally enjoyed. Tell us why you liked it, where it is, and a website or phone number so we can check it out to see if it resonates with our needs. I can see you now – snuggled in your terry robes, sipping iced green teas, blissfully letting go of the parts of you that no longer serve the woman you’ve become.
I will assemble this list and post it on my website.

Our favorite spa here in Temecula is the Grapeseed Spa at the South Coast Winery Resort and Spa. After any service you receive a complimentary glass of wine to sip on the veranda overlooking the vineyard. There is a beautiful pool and hot tubs. With any service you are free to use the facilities all day until closing. And if you are really lucky, there will even be a cute little “cabana boy” manning the snack bar and he will wait on you hand and foot.
You can also do a little wine tasting or enjoy an incredible meal in the restaurant. Their wine list is incredible and the wine is spectacular!

I’ve only been to Canyon Ranch and Miraval. So they are my favorites! No complaints but I do have comments. If you’re looking to work your buns off, CR is the place. It has plenty of different exercise classes at all times of the day and I felt a little guilty if I wasn’t attending one. They have pottery and jewelry classes, too. In the evening there were speakers on various subjects. If you are a writer/speaker, call them up. I think they comp at least a part of your stay if you agree to speak.
Miraval is much different. They are into relaxing and even serve wine with dinner. The schedule of classes was about half the size of CR. Maraval is Oprah’s favorite. Both had good spa food and not sparse.
Why not fly into Tucson and check them both out! Contact information:

Ah, I wish I were more of a spa-goer, it’s not something I do often enough. Could it be this post was a sign from the Universe telling me to take a look at that?? 🙂
There is one outside Austin here that I like called The Crossings. It’s a beautiful spa and conference center that focuses on the spiritual, personal growth, wellness and living an integrated life. They have done a beautiful job with it…the workshops are really good and the spa itself is very good. It sits up on a ridge that has a beautiful view of Lake Travis which is about 30 minutes or so outside of town. It’s a beautiful and restful place to re–invigorate!

If you can’t afford an in-residence spa, either time or money, take time in a one-day “retreat” at Tall Grass in Evergreen, Colorado. Nestled in the beautiful mountains of Colorado (a short 40 minute drive from downtown Denver) you can sip your Aveda tea while watching the occasional deer or fox or elk ambling by in the meadow across the road. All the relaxing amenities are provided. It is both a soothing and rejuvenating experience. Treat yourself and you will be glad you did.
